These walks are NOT for speed walkers or hikers, but rather for those who want to “get their steps in” by leisurely walking and talking along the Patton Park to Berkeley Park pathway. Perfect venue for newcomers to the groups and/or area who wish to socialize while getting a bit of exercise!
The Oklawaha Greenway is a 3-1/2 mile long paved walkway meandering through meadows, wetlands, and forests that links three local parks: and linking Jackson Park, Patton Park, and Berkeley Mills Park.
I’m repeating this event each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Start time is 11:00 and we will walk for an hour minimum. Generally we walk for 30 minutes then turn around, but those who wish to walk further/longer are welcome to do so. Some members may be on their lunch break, so please arrive 5-10 minutes early so we can start promptly at 11:00. Leashed dogs are always welcome!
The easiest way to get to Patton Park is to turn at the traffic light at the intersection of Asheville Hwy (25) and E. Clairmont Dr (there are two Patton Park signs facing each way) and the park is behind the “SUMOS” restaurant The pavilion we meet at is adjacent to the basketball courts and across from the skateboard ramp. I suggest bringing water bottle and wearing a hat.
For a less strenuous walk, I suggest the Patton Park 1/2 mile loop. As with any Meetup event, keep an eye on the local weather.
