OtherPride Month Donations: Hello! I wanted to have some engagement around pride month in our store in Waynesville. I was going to see if there were any organizations in Haywood County we could donate goods to but unfortunately my search came up empty. Through the pandemic we have collected snack, drink and coffee bean collections from customers and partners (employees) here at starbucks and then brought them along with travelers of coffee to organizations at the end of our collection (we have done social programs, first responders etc.). I would like to know if this kind of collection/donation would be something beneficial to you, or if you have an event we can collect for? (I can even try to get the other Asheville stores involved). Just wanting to see what would be helpful and how we can become involved. Thank you! Shanna Carlson (Store Manager at Starbucks, Waynesville.) Shanna Carlson StarbucksIn Process

I’m reaching out for two reasons.

First, I’m one of the founders and a co-chair of the Centre LGBTQA Support Network in State College, PA. We’re a virtual LGBT+ center. We’re entirely board run and we’re trying to grow to the point where we’re able to hire an executive director. I’m wondering if someone would be willing to chat with me about your experience as a virtual center with an executive director and staff.

Second, I’ll be spending the Fall in Asheville (Sept.-Dec) in preparation for a permanent move, which will take place at some point during the next few years. I’d love to get involved and volunteer with your center while I’m there.

OtherHelp getting support for Black Transgender woman: I was wanting to get in contact and ask for support in getting the word out about a Black trans woman in need of support. Blue Ridge Pride has helped support me in the past and I'll always be grateful.
I was in a domestic abuse situation that left me disfigured on my left arm. I had my first surgery for my arm at the beginning of the month, and couldn't think of a better way to start and celebrate black history month. After I went through my abusive situation.I never thought I'd ever be able to recover mentally or physically.let alone see the day I'd be able to have surgery to start the process and remove the damage that was done.

I'm asking for support in spreading the word to get help with the second surgery & physical therapy.
I'm more than happy to send verification if needed. sie dvi BLACK TRANS LGBTQ ACTIVIST.

OtherFoster Grandparent Program//Gay Elder Match: Hi,
I am writing in hopes that I can find a gay male elder or couple in my community, Hendersonville, NC that could use a friend to check on them, visit with them (once it is safe to do so//COVID), help with some light things around the house, take on outings and establish a friendship with. In the past, there was a program that I was very excited about that matched "adopted" elders with younger folks in an almost "surrogate grandparent" program out of Atlanta, GA. I want to say it was the Foster Grandparent program. I did contact them years ago and they were in the process of shutting down this program, which I think is a loss. Would love your input or ideas. My colleagues Emily Dakin, Maureen MacNamara, and I recently published a research article on social support and social networks among LGBT+ older adults in rural southern Appalachian in the Journal of Gerontological Social Work. We would like to develop a survey and send it by email and/or mail to a large sample of LGBT+ older adults living in rural western NC and we are wondering if your organization would be interested in partnering with us on this research project?
