User Guide

We have a lot of wonderful, welcoming organizations in Western North Carolina.

Our pilot version of this database focuses on a few types of organizations (e.g., communities of faith).  However, our plan is to expand its features to accommodate a wide variety of organizations and businesses.

  • Welcoming Groups: Groups that invite members who share some a common interest or need.  Examples: support and empowerment groups, shared interest groups, sports teams.
  • Welcoming Community Services: For organizations that provide specific support services.  Designed to hep users to locate providers of specific support service.
  • Welcoming Organizations: A general listing intended to include everything from employers and merchants to churches and schools.

Our intent is that organizations and groups maintain their own listing. However, to help things along, we have pre-populated some pages with listings.  If you find a listing for your organization and want to assume control of it, you need to complete two steps:

  1. Register on this website.  Where possible, do so with an email associated with the organization listed. (We need to confirm that you are authorized.)
  2. Send an email to [email protected] from your registered email address.  Tell us the listing you want us to transfer to you and let us know your role in the organization.

Policies

To keep this resource useful, we ask everyone to abide by the following.  Click on an item for more detail.

Only one person (other than us) can edit a listing for an organization.  If you need us to transfer control of a listing to someone else, do this in two steps:

  1. Make sure that they register on the site.  It is best if they use an email associated with your organization.
  2. Send an email to [email protected] requesting that we transfer control of a listing from one user to another.  Give both user names and emails.

Please code your listing to help our community find organizations that target them.

We will remove a listing if there is sufficient evidence that the organization in question operates in a way that is incompatible with its posted listing or our focus on fostering a welcoming community.

We welcome modest donations and immodest endowments. If active users and directory listers kick in a little something each year, we think that we can sustain and build this virtual center for the community.
