Organization Profile

Cathedral of All Souls*
9 Swan St. Biltmore Village
Asheville North Carolina28803
Denomination: Episcopal
As an Episcopal church, we live by our baptismal covenant which calls us to “respect the dignity of every human being.” We lean into the words All Souls, so much so that we jokingly refer to ourselves as “All Sorts”. No matter who you are, where you come from, where you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here.
Description:

All Souls is a collection of spiritual pilgrims who find their lives pushed by ancient & present worship, by arts & creativity, and by being present in the world. It is a Eucharistically-centered cathedral whose life is shaped by scripture, the baptismal covenant, and our engagement with the world about us, a community where all are welcome, trust is present, risks are taken, and where our gifts and graces enable us to be who God knows us to be.
The heart of our life is our shared worship, exemplified by the ancient tradition of the Eucharist (communion) made present with our participation. It is in our coming together to be fed that we center ourselves and prepare to go into the world to do God’s work.
We worship a God that gets involved in the messy beauty of creation. Likewise, we seek to be a community involved in the challenges and celebrations of our community outside the physical walls of the Cathedral, in Asheville, Western North Carolina, and the wider world.

User Guide

We have a lot of wonderful, welcoming organizations in Western North Carolina.

Our pilot version of this database focuses on a few types of organizations (e.g., communities of faith).  However, our plan is to expand its features to accommodate a wide variety of organizations and businesses.

  • Welcoming Groups: Groups that invite members who share some a common interest or need.  Examples: support and empowerment groups, shared interest groups, sports teams.
  • Welcoming Community Services: For organizations that provide specific support services.  Designed to hep users to locate providers of specific support service.
  • Welcoming Organizations: A general listing intended to include everything from employers and merchants to churches and schools.

Our intent is that organizations and groups maintain their own listing. However, to help things along, we have pre-populated some pages with listings.  If you find a listing for your organization and want to assume control of it, you need to complete two steps:

  1. Register on this website.  Where possible, do so with an email associated with the organization listed. (We need to confirm that you are authorized.)
  2. Send an email to [email protected] from your registered email address.  Tell us the listing you want us to transfer to you and let us know your role in the organization.

Policies

To keep this resource useful, we ask everyone to abide by the following.  Click on an item for more detail.

Only one person (other than us) can edit a listing for an organization.  If you need us to transfer control of a listing to someone else, do this in two steps:

  1. Make sure that they register on the site.  It is best if they use an email associated with your organization.
  2. Send an email to [email protected] requesting that we transfer control of a listing from one user to another.  Give both user names and emails.

Please code your listing to help our community find organizations that target them.

We will remove a listing if there is sufficient evidence that the organization in question operates in a way that is incompatible with its posted listing or our focus on fostering a welcoming community.

We welcome modest donations and immodest endowments. If active users and directory listers kick in a little something each year, we think that we can sustain and build this virtual center for the community.

Tips suggested by users

  • Prepare. There is no save-and-resume button, so have all the information on hand. (But you can return to edit it.)
  • Recurring Events. Powerful, but a little confusing the first time:
    • To enter a meeting on the same date each month (e.g., the 5th), select “on the same day”.
    • To enter a meeting on the same day and/or week (e.g., 1st Monday), select “on a different day”.
  • Categories. As a rule, you will want to select at least three categories, one from each of the following.
    • Event Type
    • Target Audience
    • Welcoming Pages
  • Venues / Organizers.
    • Enter the name of the organizer and location.
    • If it is already in the database, the calendar will populate your event with relevant contact and location information.
    • If you have to add a new organizer or venue, please fill in all the fields.  It will help others.
  • Review. Once you submit an event, it will be reviewed before appearing on the calendar.

This is our pilot release.  We will assemble user feedback to guide our second release in 2020 Q2.

We encourage and welcome donations.

We welcome everything from modest donations to immodest endowments. If active users and directory listers kick in a little something each year, we think that we can sustain and build this virtual center for the community.
