New Program Launch
Blue Ridge Pride is excited to announce our newest program, Generation Plus. Generation Plus (GP) seeks to enrich the lives of LGBTQIA+ and allied community adults in Western North Carolina who are living life’s third act, the years beyond fifty. With aging in rural LGBTQIA+ communities posing unique opportunities and challenges, GP seeks to leverage the power of community by connecting community members and area service partners.
New Monthly Series Online
Generation Plus is hosting a monthly series of virtual events that address issues and topics of current interest to an aging population.
Date | Topic | Description |
Oct 7 | What are we voting for? | When we vote for candidates, we vote on issues. Join representatives from Land of Sky Regional Council, Buncombe County Council on Aging, Equality North Carolina and Human Rights Campaign for a discussion about the issues of relevance in the coming election. |
Nov 4 | Caring Community Connections | There are multiple thriving social groups in our community. Is there a group that will meet you needs? And how things have changed with Covid-9. Join us to learn more about building a supportive community |
Dec 2 | Staying upbeat in a Virtual Winter | Let’s navigate the potential winter blues together. Shorter days and longer nights that come with winter can close us in and increase feeling of disconnection. |
Jan 6 | Planting Seeds: Share Your Intentions for 2021 | Let your colors shine in 2021. Let’s plant the seeds for your intentions and share purpose and hope. |
Feb 3 | Matters of the Heart |
We hope that these events will provide an opportunity for our WNC community to learn, raise questions, and give input to the program. The purpose of our first meeting will be to meet the organizers, to meet each other, and to learn more about available local support services. Future meetings will cover topics such as cutting out the confusion of the voting process, dating and isolation, health topics, COVID-19, and more.
Building on Rich Network and Legacy
Generation Plus builds on a legacy created by the WNC LGBTQ Elders and Land of Sky. In July, the WNC LGBTQ Elders Board of Directors voted to merge the organization into Blue Ridge Pride Center, Inc. We are pleased to welcome their leadership team and to help advance their great work.
Generation Plus also builds on a rich network of WNC partners. We are fortunate to have the AARP, Land of Sky, Council on Aging, and other partners join us in this exciting program. We believe that our community is strongest when we stand together.
