Queer & Black Ecologies

Presented by Youth OUTright with REYSE Collaboratory! For Youth 11-18

From trans clownfish to gay penguins, nature is undeniably queer. But "queer" isn't just about gender and sexual identity—it's a lens for seeing the world differently, one that embraces fluidity, resistance, and radical imagination. In this program, we will use art and nature activities to explore Queer Ecologies and Black Ecologies, two ways of knowing that challenge what's considered "natural" and help us reimagine our relationships with the land and our more-than-human kin (other animals, plants, fungi, water, etc.). You don't need to be a "nature person" or an "artist" to join. This is a space to feel, question, imagine, create, and relate.

Chestfeeding for Queer and Trans Parents

Author Jacob Engelsman shares his new book Lactation for the Rest of Us, a guide for transmasculine parents, transfeminine parents, non-binary parents, queer parents, adoptive parents, and others who are often left out of conversations about chestfeeding.

Covering the induction of lactation, difficulties one may encounter with chestfeeding, expert advice, and first-person testimonials, Lactation for the Rest of Us is the book the queer parenting community has been waiting for. At a time when the US government is rolling back trans health in devastating ways, this book offers queer and trans people access to leading-edge information about bodily autonomy!

Jacob Engelsman is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, infant care specialist, speaker, and writer. His writing has appeared in Trans Bodies, Trans Selves; Clinical Lactation; and Everyday Birth Magazine. Jacob has spoken for The National Midwifery Institute, the United States Lactation Consultant Association, and the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses on topics including lactation support and supporting gender and sexual diversity in healthcare. jacobengelsmanibclc.com

Stonewall Gala

Stonewall Gala

Please join us on June 28th for our 2nd annual Stonewall Gala, "Resilience and Resistance".

Located at a beautiful local wedding venue, you will enjoy great company, ambience, speakers, music, drinks, silent auction, and dinner by the unparalleled Celine and Co. Speakers from Helene response and DEI advocacy will bring our message of Resilience and Resistance home.

Our emcee for the evening is the fabulous Ganymede! Renowned not only for her larger-than-life persona, she takes it further, bringing fantasy and glamour to the dance floor as Asheville's premiere drag queen DJ (and emcee!)

Next up, one of our main speakers is Daniel Downer. Recognized as an OUT Magazine OUT100 Honorable Mention, Daniel brings quiet but powerful leadership—infusing every space with warmth, calm, and a deep sense of community. He bridges grassroots activism with organizational transformation, helping teams and communities move from awareness to bold action with authenticity, purpose, and lasting impact at the core.

It wouldn't be our Gala without our reigning Miss Blue Ridge Pride, and this year we are delighted to have Beulah Land. Beulah serves as the President of Sylva Pride and the Secretary of Cornbread & Roses. B also works for a local health department working to reopen restaurants and hotels in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Next up for our VIP Hour is the local music icon, Anne Coombs. Anne is a two-time Grammy nominee for the prestigious Music Educator Award. Among many accomplishments, in 2009 her guitar jam camps developed into what is now Rock Academy, a year round performance studies program.

We can't wait to celebrate the anniversary of Stonewall with you! Get your tickets here: givebutter.com/c/stonewallgala

HayQueer Hikes

Calling all queer and trans nature lovers! 🌿

Looking for a fun, welcoming way to enjoy the outdoors and meet new friends? HayCo Pride recently launched HayQueer Hikes, a hiking group just for queer and trans folks (and our friends) who want to get outside, connect, and explore the beautiful mountains we call home.

HayQueer Hikes are beginner-friendly, rated easy to moderate, and located within an hour of Haywood County. We hike together on the last Sunday morning of each month, weather permitting. Got a favorite local trail? We’d love your suggestions!

On Sunday, June 29, we’ll be doing a moderate-rated loop trail along a creek. The loop is just over five miles with minimal elevation gain.

⏰ Meet at 9:00 AM (location shared upon registration)
We'll plan to meet at a location with cell phone service to carpool and convoy to the trailhead.
Wear sturdy shoes, and bring water and a snack—we'll stop along the way to picnic!
Feel free to bring your pup—as long as they’re leashed.
Kids are always welcome too!

Want to join us? Sign up here to get the trail details and updates on future hikes.
Questions? Reach out at info@haycopride.com.

Can’t wait to hit the trail with you! 🏞

Here to Pee - A Trans Comedy Protest Tour

A hilarious trans comedy tour hitting all 50 states to flush hate. Fighting bathroom bills, funding queer orgs, peeing all over the country.

Join us in supporting a groundbreaking initiative where comedy meets activism. The "Here to Pee" comedy tour, led by the trailblazing trans comedian Ren Q. Dawe, is a bold and unapologetic journey through the Bible Belt and beyond, using humor to challenge discriminatory laws.

The traveling red-state variety show consists of an all-trans performer lineup, using potty humor to center discriminatory legislation that impacts gender diverse people nationally.

The "Here to Pee" tour is more than a comedy show; it's a movement to flush away discriminatory laws through the power of humor. By supporting this tour, you are helping to create a platform for trans rights and equality, connecting communities through shared experiences and laughter. All proceeds are donated to local LGBTQ+ non-profits battling anti-LGBTQ+ ballot initiatives on the local level—Asheville’s will benefit Tranzmission!

Be a part of this transformative journey and join the party. Support the "Here to Pee" tour, attend a show, and contribute to a cause that champions inclusivity and equality.

Tickets are $20 - get 20% off with discount code “QUEERCOMMUNITY’!
